The advantages of high temperature operation of stainless steel 321 and stainless steel 347 also depend on their good mechanical properties. Compared with stainless steel 304 and stainless steel 304L, stainless steel 321 and stainless steel 347 have better resistance to creep stress and stress cracking.
This allows the pressures of these stable alloys to meet the American Society of Mechanical Engineers boiler regulations and pressure vessel specifications at higher temperatures.
Therefore, the maximum operating temperature of stainless steel 321 and stainless steel 347 can reach 1500 ° F (816 ° C), while stainless steel 304 and stainless steel 304L are limited to 800 ° F (426 ° C).
